All our sea kayak leadership courses include:

  • Sea kayak leadership skills in moderate sea conditions

  • Excellent pre- and post-course online coaching resources

  • World-class Anglesey sea kayaking venues

  • 1 to 4 coaching ratio

This leadership development course will make the best use of forecast conditions and will include:

  • Boat handling skills – in moderate wind and waves, tidal streams, rock gardens, small surf

  • Group management skills in moderate sea conditions – skills for leaders and experienced group members

  • Safety and rescue techniques in moderate water – managing priorities, dealing with common problems, kit issues

  • Coastal navigation skills – tidal planning, weather factors, venue choice, trip planning

Our leadership courses are practical and active – be ready to spend full days outdoors and afloat. We’ll explore skills and tactics in a wide variety of sea kayaking situations – this course is ideal for any sea kayaker wishing to develop independence, safety and leadership skills.

British Canoeing:

British Canoeing no longer require formal training to attend a Sea Kayak Leader Assessment – course attendance is optional. We provide excellent coaching experiences that will develop your sea kayak leadership skills, regardless of any future assessment goals. This is not an ‘assessment preparation’ course, although we will explore skills and experience for successful candidates at this level.

Is this sea kayaking course for me?

  • Sea kayaking is a physical activity in a dynamic outdoor environment. You should be able to maintain moderate aerobic activity for up to 6 hours each day.

  • We recommend approximately 20 days recent sea kayaking experience. You should have some dynamic water sea kayaking experience, and be ready to develop your skills and take on new challenges.

  • You should be comfortable balancing, forward paddling and manoeuvring in moderate water. Rolling skills are useful, but not essential. We’ll help to refine your skills and confidence in moderate water during the course.

  • All participants must be over 18 years of age.
