Enjoy a progressive introduction to dynamic water kayaking - skills, safety, adventure and fun!
Seeking confidence kayaking in wind and waves, moving water, rock gardens and friendly surf? Intro to Dynamic Water is the course for you!
This course is ideal to develop confidence in dynamic water - up to 15kts winds, 2kts tidal streams and 1m waves. Rolling skills are not needed for this course. Confidence in sheltered water is recommended and will accelerate your progress.
There are no formal British Canoeing aims during this course, although the skills and experience gained are useful for a range of awards. If you wish, we can provide training for the BC Sea Kayak award during the course.
Tell me more!
The aim of this course is to experience a gradual introduction to Anglesey's dynamic water conditions, with dedicated coaching to bring out the best of your kayaking skills. We’ll develop your boat handling, tactics and confidence. We’ll also explore planning, decision making, safety and rescue skills.
We’ll use venues around the Anglesey coast to progressively experience dynamic water conditions, at a pace and level to suit you best. On breezy days there will be plenty of protected venues to safely explore more challenging conditions, with calm water nearby. In windy weather, we can choose sheltered venues in the Menai Strait that allow us to confidently explore dynamic water skills in safety.
Is this sea kayaking course for me?
Sea kayaking is a physical activity in a dynamic outdoor environment. You should be able to maintain moderate aerobic activity for up to 6 hours each day.
We recommend 10+ days recent kayaking experience. You do not need previous dynamic water sea kayaking experience to participate in this course.
You should be comfortable balancing, forward paddling and manoeuvring in sheltered water. You should also be willing to encounter moderate water conditions (winds up to 15kts, tidal streams up to 2kts, waves up to 1m). Rolling skills are not required. We’ll help to develop relevant skills and confidence in moderate water during the course.
All participants must be over 18 years of age.
